"You don't just see a different kind of show - you get to be a part of one"
Bruce Dessau, Comedy Critic and Previous Victim
This historical town is steeped in myth, legend and dark tales of deception and dastardly acts… not all of which are products fantasy.
Take the story of Deacon Brodie, pillar of society and respected councillor by day, playboy socialite and thief by night.
A skilled cabinet maker Brodie manufactured keys from wax impressions taken from the homes of the many wealthy Edinburgh merchants who requested his company at their ostentatious social gatherings, for his quick wit and repartee were well known and much in demand.
Brodie however revisited his generous hosts in the dead of night. Using his replica keys he helped himself to their most valued possessions.
Although eventually caught much of Brodie’s haul of precious jewels was never recovered and many have sought the secret trove within the city’s labyrinth streets and alleys without success.
Until now.
Our own cast of nefarious characters appear to have a lead, but can you beat them to Brodie’s treasure?
To do so you will have to solve the clues that will appear here periodically. Each clue will take you on a virtual journey (that means a web site for those of you who aren’t quite in the swing of this yet!) to a well know Edinburgh location.
The clue will reveal a single letter or a number. Collect these as they form a code and when assembled will take you to the final location and the hidden treasure.
Note to crack the code you will need to be in Edinburgh to solve clue 4?

Club Sandwich
I found these messages in Dick Slide’s locker… clearly some sort of code but I haven’t a clue what they’re about. He’s obviously trying to hide something. That comment the other night about him being set for life when his, “ship comes in” has set me thinking.
The first clue lies at the end of this link and is revealed at the end of the title – one letter makes such a difference!

More messages for Dick. Still don’t know what they’re about, but feel sure they are pointing me to some place in Edinburgh.
Still, life in Club Sandwich must go on…I need to book a headline comedian for The Big Club Sandwich Box night. Where am I going to find one of those at this time of year!
Forensics use one of these to see the minute details. “Google Edinburgh Watson” to look for this device and another obvious letter.
Take a virtual journey to Edinburgh Castle via this link and bring us the century in which the oldest building in Edinburgh was built…

Is this where Fringe journalists go to buy old fish?

Once there head north to find 1760 regal paces and turn left.
Further down another left leads to a leaden equine with rider who wasn’t the first, nor the last.
The name of this place reflects a multitude of owls and is all around but not round itself.
Bring us the second letter of the second word.

Things are hotting up, it's been a funny kind of month. Dick has received
another one of those messages which says I should now be able to "crack the
code". I always was crap at puzzles, crosswords and the like, because I
haven't a clue.
If you are still flueless go to our sponsor's link and look through the hole
in the wall. Bring us the last letter [the product of your shrewdness]

You now should be able to crack the code
August 25th
Assemble the letters and numbers to find the place where Burke and Hare may have sold their ill-gotten gains.
You can now either: Go to this place in person between 12 and 1pm on August 26th, find the mysterious lady in the green cap with a pint of beer and tell her that "Brad has sent me about the haggis that sags."
In return for your genius deduction and daring-do you will receive the magnificent treasure of Edinburgh.
Or: If you've had to leave town you can use our contact form to email us the final location and your share of the treasure will be sent to you - probably by a mysterious lady in a green cap but who's to say?
